Thankful

Well, tommorrow's a day to be thankful. What are you thankful for?

I'm thankful that I've been blessed with a beautiful, loving wife and an adorable son. I'm thankful for a church full of great folks, and for the awesome brothers and sisters I've made and business connections I've met this year. I'm thankful that I'm finally moving towards my vision.

I'm thankful that I've got a warm place to live and a car that gets me from point A to point B. I'm thankful that God's provided in the midst of our need and that He's still going to do so. I'm thankful that thankful for little things like Reeses Peanut Butter Cups and a good cup of Cafe Mocha. I'm thankful that I had patience with my computer when I had to fix it the last couple of times this year, and I'm thankful that I've gotten four projects in the midst of publication.

I'm thankful for my shoes and I'm thankful for a warm coat. I'm thankful that I get to open my mail up every day and not get worried. I'm thankful for the awesome feeling I get when a project is finished, and I'm thankful I can find my car keys on a regular basis. I'm thankful most of all for my loving Savior, Jesus Christ, who despite my failures and shortcomings understands and loves me anyway.

And what else am I thankful for? You - my ever faithful readers. All three of you. (you know who you are)

Goings On

Heading to town in a bit to drop off our Christmas card picture. You're all going to love it, I'm sure.

Random thought: It's amazing what a one year old can fit in his mouth. Try it sometime. It's a fun game.

Thanksgiving tomorrow at Mike and Janets. Mmmmm....Turkey.

My fantasy football team is now #1 in our league. I'm on a five game winning streak. I'm probably going to lose this week. Oh well, it's fun being number one, at least. And, if all goes well, I might be in the playoffs in two weeks.

I called about a job that I applied for. They've decided not to hire somebody, but the guy said he was going to keep my application in case something came up in the next couple of months. Oh well.

I joined a web site called Triggerstreet.com. It was started by Kevin Spacey, and it's a site dedicated to forming a community of unsigned screenwriting and film talent. I have to review two screenplays before I'm able to post something, so I've got a little bit of reading to do in the next couple of weeks.

WAHOO!! Girl Scout Cookies are here!! Gotta go.

Alright, so it's been over a week. Sue me.

It's been a good week though.

Finished my first draft of "Monsterus: A Zealot in the Land of Nod" On Sunday. I couldn't be happier, to tell the truth. I liked the story and all, it just took a lot out of me. I've enjoyed the last week of kind of filling up the gas tank. I should be working on my second draft by the middle of this week. I want to finish it by Thanksgiving, an that's this thursday. WAHOO!! I love Turkey.

Sorry. Rabbit trail.

I spent this weekend at A Weekend to Remember, a marriage conference hosted by Family Life Ministries, a division of Campus Crusade for Christ. It was really nice to get away with Michelle, and we learned a whole bunch. So much so, that it'd be hard to write it all down. Either way, I love being married more now than ever before.

I did miss Josiah though. Gosh, that kid is such a blessing.

Other Random Thoughts:

I guess TONY FREAKIN' SOPRANO doesn't have anything to worry about when it comes to Ralphie. From what I've heard, he's been "taken care of". I can't exactly watch the show (no cable) but I've read about it. It's gonna be cool when i finally get to see the fourth season on DVD.

I got a really long and involved Survivor Spoiler in the email the other week. It was written by a guy who has basically picked apart the previous Survivor Seasons, and been able to pick the winners and the boot order successfully each time. Pretty reliable huh? You'd think so. He was right on Erin. And right again on Ken. And then he picked Helen. Thinking I could trust him, I put all of my Yahoo Survivor Pick 'Em points on her. And I lost. Miserably. So much for reliable Survivor theories.

The LotR extended Version is awesome. I'd write more, but it would spoil my upcoming review on Christiancomics.net. Speaking of reviews, check out my Spider-Man DVD review there, if you haven't already.

I'm still a janitor, from 6 - 9pm during the week. Man I miss seeing Scrubs.

Things to Do:

Finish reading "Raising a Modern Day Knight" by Robert Lewis. Pass it on.
Finish the unfinished projects from the conference.
Keep looking for a new job. Can't give up.
Reply to some of those emails that I've neglected to respond too.
Start Reading the LotR again.
Buy that Sixpence or that Blindside CD.

I'm taking a writing break to - well write.

Today was the Integrity test. Lemme tell you about it.

Back in June of this year, some kid decided it was okay to back into my car with his HUGE delivery van. Well, needless to say, it took three months or so to get my deductible back on my insurance. Well, I got a check from this kid's insurance company back in the end of September, and I'm thinking, "hey, this is all over. cool!!" And it was, really over.

So today, I go to the mailbox, like I always do, hoping for cool stuff, and there's an envelope from my insurance company. Inside that envelope? Another check. For a moment, I thought, wow, this could go a long way. But then, I reminded myself - this had to be a mistake...this money was not mine. So, before I could let my greed get in the way I called the insurance company. Sure enough, it was a mistake. I ripped up the check immediately, and I felt great.

It's nice to come out on top when faced with an integrity issue. I hope that I can keep things that way.

Wrote my Spiderman DVD review today. It should be posted at
http://www.christiancomics.net by tomorrow evening, I think.

Haven't even put the LotR DVD in the player yet...been pretty busy. I'm dying to watch it though....This weekend maybe? Sunday? We'll see.

Listening to a great R.E.M. cover of "One Love" by U2.

Still writing the Monsterus graphic novel. 21 pages to go. Gonna have to go do that when I'm done posting this entry.

I'm wondering if this blog is getting traffic...if you've been reading this, email me at jszehr@localnet.com

Things to do:

Buy Sixpence None the Richer's new album, Divine Discontent.
Get Blindside's debut album.
Write, write and write some more.
Spend less time on the internet. (yeah right)

Anyways, this years season of 24 is going slow, but I'm liking it. Slower pacing makes the big payoff worth so much more.

Been really loving Survivor 5. Finally I'm doing well in the Yahoo Pick 'Em Survivor Game. WAHOO!

Still scrubbing toilets to earn the greenbacks. Really hate it. But I'll keep doing it 'til something new comes up.

Later.

Missed a couple of days, I know.

Turned 25 yesterday. Best birthday ever - I got the Spiderman Widescreen DVD and the Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition DVD set. I'm so psyched! I'll be reviewing them for www.christiancomics.net in the next week or so. I'll post the news as soon as I know.

Got the tire fixed at Sam's today, and saw a cool Surround sound system for only 77 bucks! I'm adding that bad boy to my Christmas list, believe you me! Also, while waiting, Josiah and I watched the kick butt Yoda lightsaber duel with Count Dooku in Episode II. All you naysayers shut up - that sequence alone is worth buying the DVD. (the only one left for me to get!) Did I mention it was on a 64" TV Screen, with surround sound? It was AWESOME.

*sigh* Have a ton of writing to do if I want to finish my Monsterus script in the next week. So, that's where I'll be for the next couple of hours.

Fixed the flat tire after my pal Jimbo came over and helped me out. He was brilliant enough to figure out that stomping on the tire iron would loosen the nuts. I'm sure that I could've thought of that too, but I was just too lazy and tired to think of it. Oh well. Now I've just gotta go to Sam's and get the original tire repaired. (Thank God for lifetime road hazard insurance.)

So anyways, today we took Josiah to get his one year picture. It's been about six months since his last portrait session, and he's gotten a little more mobile since then. For example:

We put him down on the floor while we were talking to the sales person, thinking he would be easily amused by a toy they had there. WRONG. no more than two minutes later, he's already halfway down the mens clothing aisle. Cute and funny now, frightening then.

So we get him into the studio, and we can't get him to sit still. But, eventually we got a decent profile shot. WAHOO. We should get the pictures in another two weeks.

Other than that, a boring Saturday.

Flat tire on the Aspire today.

Just great. And I'm such a wimp I can't even loosen the lugnuts. ARRGH!!

Watched some Sesame Street with Josiah this morning and who did I see talking to Zoe? TONY FREAKIN' SOPRANO. Well, he was outta character but still - he's TONY FREAKIN' SOPRANO. He was talking about things he was afraid of. There were three things: The Dark, Haircuts and Giant Talking Vegetables. C'mon!! He's TONY FREAKIN' SOPRANO!! He should be afraid of these three things:

1- Getting whacked by Uncle Junior or Ralphie.
2- That another one of his guys is going to get flipped by the federal government.
3- Commitment.

Man, I still can't get over seeing TONY FREAKIN' SOPRANO talking to a puppet. I think I've seen everything now. I'm surprised he didn't pull a gun on her or slap her around. I could only hope. I'm a Grover man myself. These new Sesame Street characters are just not my bag. Get rid of Zoe, Elmo and that stupid Baby Bear, and life is good. Gimme more Bert and Ernie, Oscar the Grouch and Grover.

Sorry, rabbit trail. Nothing else to really talk about now. Oh well. Later.

Been a couple days. Whoops.

Found the funniest and coolest website I've ever seen at: http://www.toddbot.com Check out this kid's online comic journal. Funnier than anything in the funny pages, in my opinion.

Still working on the 72 page Monsterus story. Should finish by 11/22.

Thinking about taking a Flash class so I can do some online comics. Not sure if I'll have the money.

Still scrubbing toilets for a living, not sure when that will change. Still looking for a new job.

Delighted with this past Tuesday's election results.

It's four a.m. and I've succeeded in writing a journal entry consisting of thoughts that are only 1 - 2 sentences long.
