Soundtrack: Apologetix "Spoofernatural"

I have this uncanny ability to jinx myself, having been unable to update my journal in almost a week. Oh well.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE RAIDERS ON SUNDAY???

Did you see the Hulk trailer? I can't wait to see the Green Goliath throw that tank around again....

On Friday I FINALLY got to see "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". Man, didn't ever think a romantic comedy could amuse me. I was wrong. Funny, funny stuff. Can't wait till "My Big Fat Greek Life" Debuts on CBS next month.

Another Syracuse run today - probably won't have to train there again. I'll be full swing starting Thursday.

Nothing else going on. Well, not that I can think of. It's 2:30 a.m.

Soundtrack: Superchic[k]'s album "Last One Picked" (yes, the entire album)

Alright, so I'm remaining faithful. I think this makes the fifth day in a row. Hurray for me.

Anyways, travelled to Syracuse today, to train for my new job. Doesn't seem like it will be too difficult, and it might even be fun. I should stock up on my vitamins though - Doctors Offices = Sick People, and I don't want to be getting sick.

While driving, I was surfing the radio in between CD's, and I came across an NPR panel about Abortion. The Pro-choice movement is so ridiculous it makes me sick. One woman actually said "The Anti-Choice people just want to give the body of a woman control over her." What??? Well, first of all, the largest number of abortions are from women who made the choice to have out of marriage sex, so I'm sorry, but there are consequences for making dumb decisions, so deal with it. It seems as though people are trying their hardest to get out of paying for the things they've done.

Anyways, it made me upset, but there was AN AWESOME guy debating the pro-life side. But why is it they don't get a pro-life woman on the show? Probably because that would make it look like not every woman supports abortion. (Hmmm...) But it was NPR, and they're the most liberal of radio networks, so I'm not surprised one bit.

It's Sanctity of Life week, so let's remember to pray that the need for abortion is erased through repentance and proper education. And remember to pray for people like Michelle, who are on the frontlines of this battle.

Soundtrack: REM's cover of "One" by U2

What happened to the Eagles yesterday? They started off great, but they fizzled out. Sorta like the way Juicy Fruit gum loses its flavor after a minute or two. Well, it'll be interesting to see Gruden face off against his old team. Go Raiders!!

The only reason I'm going to even watch the Superbowl is the Hulk movie trailer they'll be airing at some point during the game.

Anyways....

Watched a bit of the Golden Globes last night, but I missed Bono drop the F-Bomb on live TV. It's sad when somebody who is touted as being a Christian swears in such a huge forum. I still love U2, but man Bono, you dissappoint me sometimes. But hey, the Golden Globes themselves dissappointed me in general. How could they have dissed LotR for a SECOND YEAR in a row? C'mon - "The Two Towers" was and is the finest film of the last year, hands down. I could care less about "The Hours" or "Chicago". Honor a film that's going to be remembered for decades, not some flavor of the month drama. I shudder to think of how the Oscars will turn out now.

There was a time when awards were given to films that were timeless - "The Ten Commandments", "Wizard of Oz", "Gone With the Wind", but in the last twenty years they've been given to films that are forgotten within a year, or completely undeserving. "Shakespeare In Love" beats "Saving Private Ryan"? "Forrest Gump" is a former best picture? "A Beautiful Mind" over "Fellowship of the Ring"? Give me a BREAK!!!

Last year I did a series of awards I called the Jayskers. I just might do it again. We need an awards shows that honors what's deserving, not some artsy crap nobody is going to remember. And besides, when was the last time a film that the whole family could watch won Best Picture?

So anyways, I'm ticked off at the general Hollywood opinion - which isn't too much different than yesterday.

But I need a better name than the Jayskers. Any ideas? Let me know.

Soundtrack: Crowded House's original "Don't Dream it's Over". (The Sixpence version is awesome, but I like the original a lot.)

Wow. I've been more faithful to my blog this year. This is my third entry in four days. WAHOO.

Does anybody actually read this? Email me at jeremy@christiancomics.net to let me know.

Football Sunday, and I'm gonna go with what everyone else is saying and say the Superbowl will be Philly versus Oakland. Philly is virtually unstoppable, and Oakland was a pick I made way back in the preseason. And hey, Jerry Rice did me good in this year's Fantasy League, so here's hoping he gets himself another ring to add to his collection. Not too sure that's gonna happen, but hey, every year it gets more and more unpredictable.

My niners fired their coach this week. But that's okay, he was greedy. Now we just need someone who can coach just as well and not be a jerk. *crossing fingers*

Worked last night. I'm tired and sore. I have my training in Syracuse tomorrow for my new job, so it's gonna be a long day tomorrow. Heading to Mike & Janet's in a while to hang out and try out Mike's new Star Wars game on his PS2.

I'm in a film geek frame of mind, so bear with me.

If you haven't seen "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon", then you're missing out. It's one of the finest films ever made, and it's a bonus that it's an American made Hong Kong Kung Fu movie. A beautiful movie - from beginning to end. And I thought the action sequences could never be topped.

I was wrong.

Go rent "Iron Monkey", if you want to see some of the finest Kung Fu sequences ever put on film. Now, the story itself is inferior to "CTHD", but, it's a better fight film over all. Unbelievable. Astonishing.

Can't wait 'till the Matrix sequels come out. Maybe there'll be even more Hong Kong Kung Fu Imports to enjoy after they make a combined 1 billion dollars.

Two weeks space between entries is pretty bad. Blame it on laziness or just plain being tired. Josiah has a runny nose and is really stuffy today, so I've been doting on him as much as I can.

Does anybody ever read this?

Just curious.

Anyways, today's soundtrack is U2's "Walk On" and Lincoln Brewster's "Power of your Love".

Been writing here and there. I have a new concept I'm developing called "Refuge". I'd give you details, but then I'd have to go out and kill all three or four of you who read this. And I don't want to have to do that. I don't have the gas money either. :)

It's been one of those strange weeks. Monday I went to a job interview. Well, what I thought would be a job interview. It turned into a "Ok, this is what you'll be doing. When can you start?" Very cool. I guess having a good resume and a wife with connections can get you far. The job is data entry, and the pay is more than I've made at any other job I've been at. I could quit the theater if I wanted, but I really want to keep the free movies, so I'll stay there for a few nights a week. I'm pretty psyched, and tomorrow I go for orientation.

Watched two movies this week, in the comfort of my own home. The first was "Hometown Legend", a direct to video feature produced and written by Jerry B. Jenkins, the guy behind the Left Behind books. For once, I can say there is a good Christian film out there. It's been a long time coming. I can only hope that they keep coming from Jenkins and his crew.

Yesterday I was able to watch Chris Rock's updated version of "Heaven Can Wait", called "Down To Earth". Not that great of a movie. The original was just as funny, even though I'm not a big fan of Warren Beatty. There were some funny lines though. Interesting side note - "Heaven Can Wait" was playing on the plane trip back from Russia two years ago. It was two years ago last week that I came back from Russia. And to add to that, one of my American Team mates is headed back to Russia to live and work full time, as well as to marry his Russian sweetheart that he met on our trip. Very cool stuff indeed.

Anyone else watching "Celebrity Mole"? I am. The four of us who are watching are enjoying it. Too bad they won't be doing a real "Mole" again.

"24" is kicking butt, but man do I hate the Fox Network. First, they take it off of the schedule for three weeks over the Christmas/New Years holiday. Understandable. Now, they're taking it off for another three weeks while they introduce America to a whole slew of new American Idol wannabes. The only redeemable quality of that show is watching Simon Cowell act like a jerk.

Not only that, Fox has served up two of the WORST concepts in television the past couple of weeks. First, Joe Millionaire. Haven't watched it, and I never will. And last night, I'll admit, I watched Man Vs. Beast. Why, you ask? Well, throw Monkeys on a show, I'll try not to miss it. Throw midgets on the same show, and you've got yourself some genuine Must See TV!!

Man, my life is pathetic. I've spent over three or four paragraphs talking about television and movies. Time to change subjects.

My office is a mess. I must clean it.

Oh yeah, I did get to see Star Trek: Nemesis. I saw it alone, but I did get to see it. Not the best Trek Movie, but better than most. And, best villain since Kahn.

Man, I can't go more than a paragraph without going back to entertainment. I guess I should go clean my office now.

Until later....

Wow. It's been a while huh? Almost a whole stinkin' month. Whoops. Guess the holidays really DO get the best of your time, huh?

Well, I've been on the job at the theater for almost four weeks and I don't hate it nearly as much as the job at the factory. It's weird, most people my age have gotten pretty settled in their careers or are just finishing up their PHD's, but me, I'm a janitor. The funny thing is, a few years ago that would get me depressed. But now? Who cares?

Anyways, I saw Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers almost two weeks ago now. I won't write a long drawn out review, but lemme just say, Star Wars is quickly being moved to the second best trilogy ever. If "Return of the King" is half as good as "Two Towers", we've got ourselves the most perfect set of films ever made. Brilliant, just brilliant. From the animation of Gollum and the Uruk-Hai Armies, to the brilliant performances by John Rhys Davies as Gimli and Viggo Mortenson as Aragorn, and not too mention Peter Jackson's direction, the whole film is just astounding. When I can finally see it for free at the theater, I'm probably going to go at least five or six more times.

I wasted an hour and a half two days ago watching "Two Weeks Notice". It's nice to see Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock play different characters for once. Oh wait - they didn't do that. MAN!! How many times will Hugh play the stupid English guy and Sandy play the not overtly feminine chick? I guess since they each get paid over ten mill a picture they can do pretty much whatever they want. Man, I'm glad I didn't pay to watch that tripe. But hey, it was on a date with the wife, and some sacrifices, no matter how painful, must be made.

Now if I can only convince her to come and see "Star Trek: Nemesis" with me....

Had a GREAT Christmas. Added to my DVD collection, (thanks to my older sisters and Michelle!) as well as getting the new Sixpence C.D. (It rocks) and AWESOME leather driving gloves that I've wanted for two years now.

But alas, Wednesday was the day the Christmas tree came down. I can see it even now through my window, covered with a soft blanket of snow. It might sound contradictory to the prior paragraph, but most of Christmas to me is having the smell of evergreen in the living room, brilliant colorful lights flashing to the sound of a train engine going around it's track on the floor. I found myself laying on the floor with Josiah more than once, looking at the lights or playing with the train, and I couldn't help but think of how fun it's going to be teaching him about Christmas. About the baby Jesus. About shepherds and wise men and singing Choirs of angels. About how giving gifts is symbolic of the most awesome gift ever given to the world.

Sorry, getting sappy.

So here we are in 2003, and I haven't made any resolutions. They don't seem to work for me. But, I am going to try to work harder, and love more. I think that's the best thing I can do.

I'm working on a "End of the Year Awards" Thing. Should be done by this week.
